Summer food programs underway

School’s out in most Colorado districts but free breakfast and lunch are still available.

More than 450 schools and community locations will be offering free weekday meals to children ages 1-18 through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program.

The program requires no registration or paperwork, and children do not have to be students at the school or in the district where they get the free meals. There is a small fee, usually about $3, for adults who want to eat with their kids.

Program start and end dates vary, but most run through at least June and many run until early August. To get more information on the summer food program or find a site, call Hunger Free Colorado’s statewide hotline at 855-855-4626, text “FOOD” to 720-432-3285 or visit SummerFoodColorado.org.
