Colorado districts pitching for latest R2T grants

Nine Colorado schools districts have applied for the second round of funding from the federal Race to the Top-District program.

The competition awards funds to school districts to expand personalized learning opportunities for students. Last year 10 state districts or groups of districts applied, but only St. Vrain won, gaining a four-year grant of $16.6 million.

This year’s applicants include Aurora, Boulder Valley, Commerce City, Denver, Eagle, Harrison, Mapleton, Poudre and Thompson. (Mapleton narrowly missed the cut in 2012.)

Potential awards are $4-10 million for districts with 2,000-5,000 students, $10-20 million for districts with 5,000-10,000 students, $20-25 million for districts of 10,000 to 20,000 students and $25-$30 million for districts with enrollment of more than 20,000.
