New Adams 14 school board member pledges open communication, transparency

An Adams County Sheriff’s deputy detective who years ago graduated from Adams City High School will be the newest board member for the Adams 14 School District.

Joseph Dreiling was one of three candidates interviewed by the school board at a special meeting Tuesday night. He was sworn in at the same meeting.

The district serving roughly 8,000 students is going through a transition with a new superintendent and is facing the possibility of state intervention because of low performance.

In his letter of interest to sit on the board, Dreiling mentioned the need for the board to have open communication, transparency in budgeting and a plan for addressing school buildings in disrepair.

Dreiling has served as vice-chair of the Commerce City planning commission for 16 years and is the deputy director of Special Olympics of Colorado Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is a group that raises funds for the Special Olympics.

“Our students must be given every opportunity to participate in the best programs and curriculum the district can offer,” Dreiling wrote. “I am a proud graduate of Adams School district 14 and believe I can assist the school board in leadership and direction.”
