Celebrating Teachers Worldwide

According to the World Teachers’ Day website, “UNESCO estimates that 18 million more teachers are needed worldwide if universal primary education is to be achieved by 2015.” That kind of puts things in perspective, doesn’t it?

Inspired to do more? Although they don’t address the lack of teachers, Room to Read helps communities build schools and provides scholarships to expand educational access for girls in a number of Asian and African countries. I’d be interested in learning more about NGOs that help train and place teachers in underserved international settings; if you know of a good one, leave a link in the comments.
