Film Screening: "Parent Power"

Amidst intense debate from Zuccotti Park to the White House over the future of American education and New Yorkers’ own strong concerns about this City’s schools crisis, the timely film “Parent Power” will premiere on Thursday at the NYU Cantor Film Center. American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten will speak at the premiere.

The documentary – which includes commentary from Weingarten, Council Speaker Christine Quinn and other elected officials – chronicles the historic rise of New York City’s public education organizing movement from a small group of parents who organized around a single school in the Bronx, to the broad coalition of thousands of African-American and Latino activists today who have won victories to improve education in New York over the past 15 years.

The film was produced by the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University in collaboration with FPS Video Productions, and will be distributed around the country following the premiere.
