NYC Leadership Academy exec decamps for Jersey City

Vivian Brady-Phillips, the NYC Leadership Academy’s executive vice president for external and legal affairs, is a new deputy mayor of Jersey City, N.J. Brady-Phillips, who was named to the post last month, will focus on social services for the city of 250,000.

Jersey City’s new mayor, Steve Fulop, has said he wants to take on the city’s struggling schools, but he will do so without the advantage of mayoral control. The Wall Street Journal looked at his ambitions last month.

Brady-Phillips, an attorney, also worked with New Visions for Public Schools and at Advocates for Children of New York, a nonprofit law firm, according to her Leadership Academy bio, which still appears on the organization’s website.

We reported last week that the academy, which prepares new principals, is increasingly looking for work in other districts as its opportunities and traction in New York City have waned.
