Welcome to our First Person page where teachers, students, education advocates, administrators and policy makers are encouraged to share their stories about classroom experiences, successful lessons, frustrating experiences and the impact of education policy in the schools.
It’s impossible for us to visit every school and every classroom in Shelby County and Tennessee, so we’re counting on you to tell the stories that only you can tell.
As the Community Editor, it is my responsibility to read and edit your submissions. I have ideas of some subject areas, but we’re also open to your ideas as well.
We want to be a part of educational change dialogue going on in Memphis. Know of an issue that teachers are talking about? Write about it. Are you wondering why no one knows about the progress being made in your school? Write about it. Would you like to share your thoughts about educational policy that will impact students and classroom teachers? Is there a political debate involving education that you feel you can shed light on? We would love to read those too.
All we ask is that you keep it to 300-400 words and keep it education focused. In a few weeks, we’ll start publishing the first submitted First Person pieces. Read them, give feedback and get ready to submit your own.
