The Ethics and Protocols of Live Interpretation
Federal law mandates that ELL parents receive the same information that English speaking parents receive in a language they understand. The Department of Justice and the Office for Civil Rights have stated that schools may use staff to act as translators and interpreters, provided that staff are trained. In this training, participants will learn about cultural competency and the ins and outs of interpretation. They will have an opportunity to participate in role plays related to common scenarios that arise during live interpretation. Participants will also deep dive into the ethics and confidentiality of serving as an interpreter. **Note that this is a repeat of the session we offered on 10/03/17 REGISTER: NYCSPED.ORG/EVENTS
