What $100 Million Bought – and Didn’t Buy – for Newark’s Troubled Schools

The saga of the high-profile, highly ambitious efforts to turn around Newark, New Jersey’s public schools – underwritten by a $100 million check from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg – is the subject of Dale Russakoff’s critically acclaimed, national best-selling book, The Prize. The author will be appearing at Teachers College on January 20 to discuss her book and thenparticipate in a panel discussion featuring Nicholas Lemann, former Dean of the Columbia School of Journalism, Basil A. Smikle Jr., President and Founder of Smikle Associates, political and policy analyst. Jeffrey Henig, Professor of Political Science and Education and Chair of the Department of Education Policy & Social Analysis (EPSA), will moderate this discussion.
