Wednesday Churn: Another CDE hire

What’s churning:

Another key position at the Colorado Department of Education has been filled with the naming of Katy Anthes as executive director of educator effectiveness. In that role, she will focus on implementation of the educator effectiveness system mandated by Senate Bill 10-191.

She’ll also be responsible for aligning and coordinating educator preparation program review, licensure, induction, professional development, evaluation, retention initiatives, teacher equity initiatives and other related functions.

Anthes has been a partner with the Third Mile Group, an education and public policy consulting group.

Anthes also has worked with the state’s School Leadership Academy and the Expanded Learning Opportunities Commission. She previously worked for the Education Commission of the States. Release

Earlier this week, Amy Anderson of the Donnell-Kay Foundation was named to head overall CDE innovation efforts.

Chris Romer, unsuccessful mayoral candidate, former state senator and one-time charter school administrator has been named vice president of development and community partnerships at the Community College of Denver. Romer has been heavily involved with education issues during his public-service career. Story

A new review of how “cut points” on state achievement tests compare to the standards of National Assessment of Educational Progress tests has found that eight states have raised their standards, two have lowered them and the rest (including Colorado) have made no changes since 2007.
