Tuesday’s election saw teachers union-backed school board candidates headed for big victories in Denver and Aurora, and another disappointing result for advocates of sending more tax dollars to Colorado schools.

Voters handily rejected Proposition CC, which would have allowed the state to keep all revenue from existing taxes, potentially sending millions more to schools — but only when the economy is doing well.

In Denver, the state’s largest district, union-backed candidates were poised to sweep the three seats in play, shifting the balance of control of the board away from supporters of the district’s nationally known education reform policies.

In Aurora, two-union backed candidates were leading the pack in a race that will see three new board members charged with overseeing the district at a pivotal time.

In Adams 14, the first district in Colorado to be ordered to accept external management, voters were poised to pick three new board members who will help guide the district through the critical next steps.

And in Jeffco, a unanimous union-backed majority on the school board appears likely to get a new dissenting voice
