De Blasio and Quinn line up lawmakers in pre-K squabble

The mayoral campaigns of Bill de Blasio and Christine Quinn have each sent out press releases today touting legislative support for their positions on de Blasio’s plan to raise taxes to pay for universal pre-kindergarten.

De Blasio says he has four legislators lined up to approve a tax increase: Sen. James Sanders Jr., Sen. Liz Krueger, Sen. Bill Perkins, and Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda.

Quinn rounded up nine legislators to say that de Blasio’s plan could be unrealistic, particularly given the State Senate’s recent track record: Assembly Members Carmen Arroyo, Ed Braunstein, Deborah Glick, Andrew Hevesi, Danny O’Donnell, and Aravella Simotas, and State Sens. Michael Gianaris, Brad Hoylman and Gustavo Rivera.

As a reminder, de Blasio has said he anticipates no trouble getting legislators to sign off on his tax increase proposal. But this week he revised up the amount that he hoped to raise taxes.
