With all of this year’s test-takers included, city’s top 10s shift slightly

Last week, when the state released last year’s state test results, we published lists of the top and bottom 10 schools in math and reading proficiency. As we noted in that story, the lists came from state reports that excluded third graders and any other students who didn’t also take the exam in 2013.

But we were also interested in how schools stacked up when every student who took the 2014 tests was included. Below are new lists compiled from that city data.

Schools in bold are newly included, and most of them had relatively small numbers of test-takers. Upper West Success Academy and the Academy for Excellence Through the Arts—now at the top of the math and reading proficiency lists, respectively—served only kindergarten to grade 3 last year, while only 45 students took the exams at the Academy for Social Action.
