Happy Birthday Chalkbeat TN!

A year ago this week, Chalkbeat Tennessee filed its first story, introducing ourselves as a nonprofit news organization focused entirely on education change in low-income communities.

Thanks for sticking with us.  We’d like to celebrate by simply saying thank you.  To those who perhaps came by to check out the education site with the funny name after hearing about us from a friend, welcome!

With Memphis undergoing some of the most dramatic educational change in the country, we knew there’d be plenty of news to cover and stories to tell and we sure have been busy.

We’ve  built partnerships with the Commercial AppealTri State Defender, WKNO.

We broke the story that Nashville and Memphis were considering handing over several of their Izone schools over to charters.

We’ve closely followed teacher workforce developments including bonuses, changes in the evaluation and a series of lawsuits filed on teachers’ behalf.

We hired a reporter in Nashville to cover how statewide policy and legislation impacts Memphis schools.

Thanks for reading, send us story ideas and suggestions or leave a comment with your feedback, and keep coming back for the most extensive coverage of education issues in Tennessee!
