Rise & Shine: Districts are rallying around Memphis families impacted by a tragic bus crash. Here’s how you can help.
Tragedy struck the Orange Mound community yesterday – and schools across the city of Memphis. A bus wreck in Arkansas killed one child, a third-grade student from Aspire Coleman Elementary School, and injured more than 40 children and adults. There are no words to express the magnitude of the loss or the impact on countless educators, students, mothers, fathers, and community members throughout the city. Shelby County Schools is raising funds here to support families affected, and the Achievement School District and Aspire Public Schools are raising funds here to support the family of the student who was killed.
We also want to highlight that Georgian Hills Achievement Elementary School is back in session this week after three weeks off due to building issues. And check back with Chalkbeat today for context around Tennessee's newest State Report Card. As usual, it will include the latest state test scores and demographic data, but it will also have new information in an effort to give families a fuller picture of school performance. This earlier piece gives the details — and the backstory on why the online tool won’t include A-F ratings as previously planned.
