DPS poetry reading draws a crowd

So many families attended Denver Public Schools’ student poetry reading this week at the Denver Public Library that one session turned into three.

Steve Replogle, a teacher at Bromwell Elementary, solicited poems from elementary students and teachers across the district. He and students from East High School and the Denver School of the Arts served as editors, deciding which poems made it into this year’s poetry book.

Titled The Place Where Poetry Begins, the book is the district’s second collection of poems by elementary students. The first, titled Our Hearts Are Woven Into Words, was released last school year.

Replogle repeatedly apologized to parents attending Tuesday’s reading and promised a larger venue would be found for next year’s event. Click on the link below to hear some students read their work:
