What’s churning:
School board candidate forums involving races in Adams 50 Westminster, Denver, Douglas County and Jefferson County are scheduled throughout the week.
On Tuesday, President Barack Obama will speak at Denver’s Lincoln High School to campaign for his American Jobs Act, which includes funds for school construction and renovation. Go here to see how the public can get tickets.
Also, on Wednesday, Obama will make his third annual back-to-school speech at 11:30 a.m. Mountain time. The president’s first speech in 2009 generated controversy among Republicans, who accused him of attempting to indoctrinate the nation’s children. This year, Jefferson County, Colorado’s largest school district, has informed parents that the speech will be available to students who wish to see it. An alternate activity is being provided for those who do not, and for those families who want to opt out their children.

A forum featuring all four Jefferson County candidates as well as two Douglas County candidates, Susan McMahon and Justin Williams, plus what’s billed as a status report on DPS, starts at 7 p.m. at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood.
TUESDAY
President Obama will visit Denver to campaign for his $447 billion jobs proposal at Lincoln High School in southwest Denver. The proposal includes $25 billion for school infrastructure improvements.

The Boulder Valley school board meets at 6 p.m. in the Education Center at 6500 East Arapahoe Road. The agenda includes a vote on a resolution endorsing Proposition 103 and a discussion of heat problems in schools last month.
A Denver school board candidate forum for those seeking the at-large citywide seat and the District 1 or southeast Denver seat begins at 7 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson High School. The event is co-sponsored by the Partnership for Southeast Denver Schools, the League of Women Voters and Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation.

The state Capital Construction Assistance Board meets starting at 1 p.m. at the Department of Education, 201 E. Colfax Ave.
An Adams 50 Westminster candidate forum begins at 6 p.m. at Westminster High School. District 50 is sponsoring the debate. The six candidates are running at-large; the three receiving the highest number of votes win. The election could determine the fate of the district’s standards-based education reform. A Douglas County school board candidate debate sponsored by the American Association of University Women and moderated by the Arapahoe League of Women Voters begins at 6:30 p.m. at Cresthill Middle School in Highlands Ranch.
