84-year-old is Learning Leaders’ School Volunteer of the Year

Carolyn Breidenbach, an 84-year-old retiree, has been named School Volunteer of the Year by Learning Leaders, a nonprofit that trains volunteers to assist in city schools.

Breidenbach, who worked for many years at the Museum of Modern Art, has been volunteering at P.S. 198 on the Upper East Side every day since 2001. She helps students in third through fifth grades with reading, writing, and math.

“Carolyn is part of the fabric that makes up our school community and is highly valued by us all,” Danielle Festa, the school’s parent coordinator, said in a press release put out by Learning Leaders. “She always rises to the occasion when we need her the most and she never gives up on the students she tutors.”

Learning Leaders currently works with 6,500 volunteers across the city.
