College Readiness Panel Discussion

College Readiness or College?

What is education reform’s end goal for students? (And is it enough?)

Please join representatives from Citizen Schools, College Summit, Generation Schools, I Have A Dream Foundation, and Democrats for Education Reform as we engage in a lively discussion and friendly debate on this overarching question and the public policies needed to make reform a reality. (The event is being underwritten by the Blue Ridge Foundation New York)

Date: Thursday, Sept. 24

When: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Where: 55 Exchange Place, Sixth Floor (1 block from Wall Street exit for #2 and #3 trains.)

Education Reform is a hot topic from coast to coast, and Teach For America is right in the middle of the action. But what is the end game? Preparing students so they are college ready? Sending them to college? Making sure they graduate? Even partners in the reform space are in disagreement (and that’s OK!) Corp members will hear from representatives of several NYC education reform groups about how their specific reform models and public policies address the question and then join in the debate themselves.

Panelists:

Nitzan Pelman, Executive Director, Citizen Schools New York
Karin Goldmark, Executive Director, College Summit
Furman Brown, Founder & Executive Director, Generation Schools
Iris Chen, President & CEO, I Have A Dream Foundation
Moderator: Joe Williams, Executive Director, Democrats for Education Reform (DFER)

Refreshments will be served.
