Meredith Elementary in Queen Village hosted its fourth annual “Hoops for Haiti” fundraiser in April to raise money for Hope for the Children of Haiti, an organization that prepares students for adulthood and provides educational opportunities. Members of the state championship basketball team at Neumann-Goretti High School also participated in the event and assisted the Meredith students while they played on the court. This year’s event raised over $4,000. Since the event began, Hoops for Haiti has raised over $20,000 through the sale of T-shirts and corporate sponsorships. These proceeds will go toward sending 100 children to high school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital and largest city.
