Chalkbeat listening tour: Parents, what do you want to know about school choice?

As education reporters, we talk to parents all the time about what they want for their children.

They ask, “Which schools have the strongest academics? Which schools best support students with disabilities? Which schools have the smallest class sizes?”

While the answers to some of those questions are easy to find, others are not. Chalkbeat wants to be a resource in helping families get the information they need about their local schools. That’s why we host an annual listening tour to hear directly from the community.

The topic of this year’s event is, “School choice: Parents, what do you want to know?” We’ll start with an overview of school choice. Then we’ll listen: What questions do families have about the schools in their neighborhood and across the city? How could Chalkbeat help answer them?

The event is on Sept. 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Sewall Child Development Center, 940 Fillmore St. in Denver. Admission is free, and dinner and child care will be provided. Please RSVP here so we know how many people to expect.

If you can’t make it, please take our survey to tell us what you’d like to know about Colorado schools. Here’s the survey in English and in Spanish. Those who take the survey will be entered to win one of seven $50 Amazon gift cards as a thank you.
