Scores for the first year of Indiana’s standardized test, ILEARN, are expected to be disappointingly low, dropping statewide for both English/language arts and math.
Results won’t be released publicly until Sept. 4, but concerns have been mounting since schools received theirs earlier this month. Gov. Eric Holcomb and State Superintendent Jennifer McCormick have both already called for legislators to pass a “hold harmless” exemption, which would protect educators and schools from the negative effects of low scores.
McCormick said the new, computer-adaptive test was “much more rigorous” and weighed skills differently, prioritizing “college and career readiness” skills.
