Leave all your children behind…

but only temporarily, as you become a teacher-astronaut with the Teachers In Space (TIS) program. It’s a little unclear to me what the teachers will actually do in space, and, oddly, the site lists no general contact email for inquiries.

TIS, which is privately-funded and not NASA-affiliated, wants to begin with two “pathfinder” teachers who will then help develop a three-week training program to send hundreds or thousands more teachers into space. TIS is looking for one science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) teacher, and one teacher from any subject area with expertise in developing lesson plans. Applications are due December 4, 2008, and if selected, you could be in space as early as 2010.
