Eba Hamid-Rivera is Chalkbeat’s first-ever director of audience. They have more than 15 years experience as a journalist, news editor, and digital strategist. Before joining Chalkbeat, Eba was an audience editor at The Trace, a senior digital editor at The New York Times and a web editor and copy editor at local newspapers across the United States, including The Wichita Eagle in Wichita, Kansas, and the Sun Herald in Biloxi, Mississippi. In recent years, Eba worked with dozens of local news organizations, national nonprofits and artists as an editor and audience development consultant. Eba has a bachelor’s in journalism from Hampton University. They are from Sudan and Mississippi and now reside in Brooklyn, New York.
