As state and local officials scramble to figure out what Trump’s executive orders mean for schools, advocates said the orders are causing fear in the transgender community.

“Let me be clear: it is a new day in America, and under President Trump,” said a letter signed by the acting assistant secretary for civil rights.

“Si personas tienen miedo de ir al hospital si están enfermas o miedo de llevar a sus hijos a la escuela, esto puede tener impactos devastadores en toda la comunidad”, dijo un portavoz del alcalde.

“Denver is prepared to take the administration to court and do everything within our legal authority to keep them safe,” a mayoral spokesperson said.

Seven Denver schools are set to close and three more schools are set to partially close at the end of this school year due to declining enrollment.
